Curitibana '24 - Present
I spent Christmas and New Year’s at a beautiful beach in southern Brazil, surrounded by amazing company. We drank some terrible beer and some great beer, ate Churrasco, went to a Paraná state league football game, wandered through shopping malls, visited parks, and even saw Capivaras.
I got to see people loving their country and hating their country, worrying about the economy, and complaining about Argentinians. What more can you ask for?
In this book, I set out to show the wealth, joy, and richness of people and places that the media often overlooks.
Too many people are afraid of Brazil. Movies and news paint it as this poor, dangerous, third-world country. Sure, the economy and political situation are complicated, but Brazil is humongous—just like the US—and full of diversity, beauty, and joy.
There’s so much about Brazil that people outside of it don’t know. And that’s what I want to share: the Brazil I got to know. One person, one family, one city—Curitiba. Through my lens. Through the lives of Curitibanos.
Brazil is more than the stereotypes. Let’s change the narrative together.
