A Fipa man in Sukumaland
William Johnson, a Fipa man from southwestern Tanzania, moved from Fipa land to Mwanza in Sukumaland to run schools aimed at helping children in impoverished villages. He now oversees two schools, known as the Savvy Brain Academies, which offer vital education to children who otherwise would have little access to such opportunities.
But this isn’t a story of poverty, but one of bravery. It’s about a man with vision and determination, and about the strength to keep families together. It’s about changing the world, one family at a time.
William grew up without a father, struggling to find the right path or any parental guidance. Despite the odds, he taught himself and found that education and teaching were his purpose. He made it his mission to give back to the children of Tanzania.
There were times when William couldn’t feed his own family so that he could feed the children at school. Yet, through the Savvy Brain Academies, his legacy will grow. From his work, there will be three more Williams who will transform the lives of nine future Williams—until the region itself begins to change.
